In a great interview by NPR's Renee Montagne of Sir Richard Branson, chairman and CEO of the Virgin group about his new book, “Like a Virgin: Secrets They Won't Teach You at Business School” Branson expounds on building his vast, business empire despite having dropped out of school and having both dyslexia and attention deficit disorder.
Clearly a man who knows something about building a business empire, Branson explained that his ability to not only compete against such giants, as British Airways starting with but one plane with his Virgin Air, against their fleet came down to the customer’s experience. With success coming, by making that customer experience as pleasant, value laden as possible, and provided in such a way that would make the customer want to repeat it.
This isn’t the first successful CEO to build an empire upon this simple concept, but he is the latest to share his “secrets to success” only to have that ‘secret’ turn out to be something that should be obvious to anyone running a business of any sort.
