Sporting real time processing in all forty-eight channels allows for some incredible things, when it comes to processing speech out of complex, noisy environments. By using the most robust and powerful, dual core chip in the industry today, Siemens may very well be able to claim with pride the title of “Best in Class”.
From a simple program flow chart, through to the most complex, under the hood type of tweaking, Siemens has done an excellent job of not wasting our time with inessentials. The depth of their software development allows for simple, easy to follow instructions that assure that the unique processing and customization of sound needs of each of our patients can be easily and quickly achieved.
With a selection of four receiver strengths, this new Micon line of instruments have the capability of fitting an incredibly wide range of needs, from first time users, to those who’ve worn hearing aids all of their lives, and need a great deal power. By simply changing the receivers, tips and programming, the same processing unit are capable of fitting from early, to profound losses with the most amazing sound quality I’ve ever experienced.
Having worn hearing aids myself for twenty years now, with a severe high frequency loss, I’ve been wearing their sister, subsidiary company Rexton’s Strata 18s, with thirty-six channels and was beginning to think that was as good as it got. As I wrote a year ago when I first got my Stratas, these are great hearing aids, absolutely the best I’ve ever worn, until now.
However, with a full twelve more channels within which to process sounds, the Siemens 7mi is capable of even finer, real time adjustments to constant changes going on in the sound field surrounding the wearer. This extra bandwidth, and processing channels make a real difference in those most challenging of sound environments like noisy parties, restaurants or meetings, where these instruments are able to greatly enhance our ability to function when, and where it matters most.
No longer will those of us with even a severe loss find ourselves left out of the fun, or miss the punch lines.
This became apparent as a fact, when we were taken to dinner at the incredible Steakhouse 85 in New Brunswick, where their steaks melt in your mouth, and the service is best described, as standard setting.
As might be expected in such a place, the noise of dozens of conversations blended with the clatter of dishes, silverware and laughter. Those who were wearing the new 7mi instruments reported an ease of understanding, even in this environment, that was attested to by their dinner companions with normal hearing, who commented later, that while they were having real trouble following the conversation around the table, those wearing Siemens’ new Micon products, were actually able to understand more, and more easily, even with their hearing loss, than those who had normal hearing.
That folks is real processing power where you need it most, improving that speech signal to a level above the background noises, that allows for understanding conversations in places where before, many of us were simply at a loss.
With this new technology available across their entire product line, from the smallest CIC to super powered BTE, Siemens is positioned to make real market gains with these instruments.
We look forward to integrating these advanced products into the toolbox we use everyday to help folks hear better.
This event held real meat, that I can put to work for the folks who come to us for help. Well done Siemens, & Ear Q.
