“Not only a patient but a sincere friend
for over 20 years!!”
by Natasha Tomlin, A Advanced Hearing Care
Mr. William “Bill” Madigan has been wearing hearing aids since 1983. Bill didn’t realize he had a hearing loss until he was tested and told by the doctor in order to gain employment. He damaged his hearing while serving our country in the Navy in the south pacific and Guam, the southernmost island in the Marianas. The combat missions they flew against Japan ultimately brought them two prestigious Distinguished Unit Citations. Lesser known, however, are the individual stories - some joyous, some tragic - stored in the memory of each crewman. He was one that was aboard the ship when they dropped this “Bomb” that changed history.
Mr. Madigan being a World War II Veteran did what most do when they get out of the service. Get married, find employment, and start their new life as a civilian. Bill married his sweetheart, then soon got a job with The International Silver Company. Before he could gain employment every employee was to see a doctor for a physica, hearing and screening test. Using heavy artillery aboard a Naval ship with no ear protection finally had caught up with him. The doctor described his loss as being almost deaf!
The first set of hearing aids he ever wore were Analog. Analog hearing aids are adjusted manually with a small screwdriver and can only be adjusted within a limited range. Less than nine years later he went to see Dan Taylor. The first set of hearing aids Bill had fit with Dan was a custom set of ITE hearing aids, in the ear, instruments. Bill was very happy and said "this is a lot better quality then what I had been fit with before."
After moving to Melbourne from down south Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and being new to the area, he found Dan in the phone book. He made an appointment and was seen the very next day. Bill said "Dan made me feel like I was at home when in his office and he had a comforting face and I was seen withing 24 hours!". He answered all my questions truthfully, honestly and that was something that he hadn’t come across in a while, so with that being said, Dan and Bill immediately became friends.
Over twenty years later and Five sets of hearing aids, Bill Madigan is now wearing The Unitron Moxi Pro’s. He lives an active lifestyle and at the young age of 88, he still travels down south in one of his three motor homes. He worked there as a silver carver making beautiful silverware for all to enjoy for many years. Nowadays he uses wood and carves anything from rope to a piano with his bare hands and lots of patience.
Bill said "My experience with A- Advanced Hearing Care, Inc. has and will be the only place I will go to for hearing aids and I will refer any of my friends or family!".
Mr. Taylor himself has been hearing impaired for over 30 years and understands the entire experience and the evolution hearing equipment has gone through over the years. Dan welcomes questions and will answer honestly. So come on down and see us with your hearing questions.
